A Message from President Jeff Poppel
It is truly an honor to be elected the 82nd President of the Golden Slipper Club and Charities. This wonderful organization has a special place in my heart since the day I joined and I hope you'll join me and our 800 members for a charitable experience not to be missed.
Golden Slipper provides a phenomenal road map for all of us to learn the meaning of togetherness, community bonding, and truly helping others in need. Life is all about doing the best that one can do each and every day but I feel that one's life cannot be complete without giving back to the people you love and cherish either financially or by donating your time, goods and or services.
This is the 87th year in which Golden Slipper Club & Charities will help thousands of needy people in the Delaware Valley.
Our services include:
- Generous scholarships to help deserving children enjoy a summer experience of a life time at Golden Slipper Camp.
- A Senior Center offering camaraderie, meals, activities and other programs for independent seniors.
- Our Slipper Scholar program which provides four year college scholarships for deserving Philadelphia / South Jersey area students (Slipper Scholars).
- Emergency grants for families in need (Human Needs and Services Committee).
- An annual Passover Seder for over 600 area seniors, many of whom do not have a family to share the holiday with at home.
We are all aware of these difficult economic times, and Golden Slipper, like many other non-profit organizations, has been greatly affected. Now more than ever we need your financial support as well as your precious time to continue these vital programs to those less fortunate.
Charity - Good Fellowship - Loyalty
These four words describe our organization to a tee. As a member, you'll have the pleasure of working with many other men and women in the Delaware Valley as we're all striving for a common goal: To help those less fortunate.
- How about the feeling you'll get from helping young children with their luggage so they may board a bus up to camp for the summer of their life.
- How about donating a crib, baby formula, or diapers to a family that cannot afford any of these items.
- How about raising the necessary funds so that Golden Slipper can provide partial college scholarships for those deserving young adults who would not be able to attend college without these additional funds.
- How about sponsoring a table at the annual Seder and get ready for the hugs and kisses from our senior citizens as this is their way of saying thanks for their Seder experience.
The list is almost endless so please join us and help make a wonderful list of your own.
Here's my request to you: Get in touch with us and see what we're all about. We work hard, have fun, and ultimately put smiles on the faces of those that may not have smiled in a long time.
